Fresh Science happened at:

Fresh Science 2006 ran from 7 to 10 August 2006. The Fresh Scientists spoke at the following events:

  • Fresh Science at the Redback
    An evening of lively science entertainment at the Redback hotel in North Melbourne. The Fresh Scientists took the 'bright sparks' challenge where they presented their work in the time if took for a birthday sparkler to burn out (approximately 45 seconds). They also performed their work as limericks, haikus and in song.

  • Fresh Science at the Melbourne Museum
    One hour forums for school students and the public where the Fresh Scientists talked about their discoveries and answered questions.
    Tuesday 8 August and Thursday 10 August 2006

  • Fresh Science in Regional Victoria
    School talks in Shepparton, Alexandra and Bendigo

    School talks in the BMW Edge theatre as part of National Science Week
    Tuesday 15 August and Thursday 17 August 2006

Additional prizes

  • Deanna D'Alessandro from the University of Sydney won a study tour to the UK courtesy of British Council Australia. Deanna's work is on: Re-inventing nature for cheaper solar power

  • Jenny Martin from the University of Melbourne's Department of Zoology won the 'People's choice' award of a one year subscription to New Scientist. Jenny's work is on: Playing possum: one love or free love?

  • Craig O'Neill from Macquarie University was awarded a one week internship in the newsroom of The Australian newspaper. Craig's work is on: The life and death of diamonds.
